Exhibition «Nicholas I Imperial „Chugunki“» Opened in Peterhof

On August 4th, 2017 Upper Gardens in Peterhof saw opening of the exhibition «Nicholas I Imperial «Chugunki» (cast iron rails), dedicated to 180th anniversary of Russia’s railways and 160th anniversary of Peterhof Railway. The exhibition was jointly organised by PGUPS, the Peterhof State Museum-Reserve, as well as by JSC «RZD» and the Central Museum of Railway Transport.

At the opening of the exhibition Director General of the Peterhof State Museum-Reserve Ms. Elena Kalnitskaya and Rector of PGUPS Mr. Alexander Panychev gave their speeches and told about joint activities aimed at popularisation of glorious history of Russia’s railways and engineering professions.

The vernissage was attended by Director of the Central Museum of Railway Transport Mr. Vladimir Mitilenko, the administration and students of PGUPS, the administration and cadets of Military Transport Institute of Railway Troops and Transportation Service.

During a theatrical performance, there met two persons - Emperor Nicholas I, whose reign started the era of railway transport in this country, and an organiser and the first Rector of our university Agustin Betancourt. Their roles were played by PGUPS’ Mr. Sergey Sulim and the Museum-Reserve’s Mr. Ivan Tulpan.

Accompanied by Mikhail Glinka’s «Song for the Road», the exhibition commenced its work. Visitors had their first excursions. As one of the guides, D. Sc. Professor Igor Kiselev conducted a 30 minute excursion for the attendees.
