Volkhov Hydroelectric Station Celebrates its 90th Anniversary

On December 19th, 1926 in presence of the Government Members the Volkhov Hydroelectric Plant was solemnly opened. Thus, it became the first achievement of GOELRO plan (State Commission for Electrification of Russia).
The construction of the plant was performed under supervision of Petersburg Institute of Transport Engineers’ (later PGUPS) alumnus, member of the GOELRO Commission, later Head and Chief Engineer of Volkhov Hydroelectric Plant — Genrikh Graftio. The plant became the first Hydroelectric Station to be built in the Soviet Union.
