PGUPS Mourns

The Administration of the university regret to report that on April 3d, 2017 13 students of PGUPS suffered in the terror attack on Saint-Petersburg Metro. Nine of them are being treated in city’s hospitals and three rejected hospitalisation.

As a result of the attack, the third-year student of the Faculty of Economics and Management Dilbara Alieva tragically died.

Dilbara Alieva wanted to become a psychologist. Just as many girls, she had friends, built big plans and loved life. Everything was cut on the day of the 3d of April in the city’s metro when the bombing took place.

She will remain in the memories of her friends and relatives as young, blossoming, energetic and determined.

Another victim of the attack was editor Larisa Shchyokina, who had many years worked with the university’s publishers.

We express our deep condolences to the relatives and the friends of Dilbara Alieva and Larisa Shchyokina who prematurely left us. We wish the wounded fast recovery and send heartfelt words of sorry to their friends and relatives.

We see the expression of human’s best qualities of the university’s students who helped the wounded, faced the accident together and demonstrated firmness, lack of panic and bravery.

The Administration of the university would like to send special thanks to JSC «PUL Trans», October Railway, and the Russian Railway Workers and Transport Engineers Union for bringing help to the wounded and the victims of the attack, as well as their relatives.

Words of condolences, outrage and support have been received from Russian transport universities, Lappeenranta University of Technology, Stralsund University of Applied Sciences, The University of Helsinki, Beijing Jiaotong University, The Technical University of Madrid, The International Union of Railways, Ethiopian Railway Corporation, The Russian Association of Higher Education Transport Institutions, Riga Technical University, S.I. Vavilov Institute for the History of Science and Technology, and Harbin City Hall of People’s Government (China), École des Ponts ParisTech.

Letters and telegrams of condolences are still being received.
