There is a long-established tradition in PGUPS - to commemorate the first Rector and establisher of the University Agustin de Betancourt by laying wreaths at his memorial in front of the University and on his grave in Saint Alexander Nevsky Lavra.

Following this tradition, a group of students and workers of Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University honoured the memory of the Russian Spaniard and laid flowers at his memorial and on his grave.
