Petersburg State Transport University:

the first transport and contemporary engineering university

   Training skills for the transport industry is a specific process that differs in many respects from the training of specialists for other spheres of national economy. The transport segment staff has to possess the most serious fundamental grounding in combination with profound practical skills.

   Provision of the transport with skilled personnel determines how an effective management of the industry, its technological re-equipment and information policy will be carried out. That is why it should be necessary, in the field of the transport skilled personnel training, to focus both on present and future circumstances. First of all, it means that transport science and education should take the lead of the industry’s innovative development. It is this approach to the training that has been implemented in St. Petersburg State Transport University, the first transport higher school in Russia, with a two hundred years long history.

   St. Petersburg State Transport University comprises 10 faculties, 52 departments, scientific research institutes and centers, branches and offices in various Russian towns as well as a complex of specialized secondary educational institutions.

  According to the rating carried out by the Russian Federation Ministry of Education over recent years, St. Petersburg State Transport University assumes spots 10-13 among 175 Russia’s technical higher schools.

   PSTU trains Specialists, Bachelors and Masters in various specialties and areas: railways power supply, automatics, telemechanics, telecommunications, traffic management. Training in such called-for specialties as information systems, standardization and certification, technological processes safety, management and marketing is being carried out.

   Graduates from PSTU become employed not only at the rail industry businesses but also at design institutes, municipal building organizations, engineering works, underground railways. The main strategic partners for the University are: OAO Russian Railways (Oktyabrskaya, Severnaya and other railways, RZD affiliated companies), the St. Petersburg Metro, major design, building and operational transportation enterprises of St. Petersburg and Leningradskaya Oblast that take part in implementation of national projects and programs.
