Rector’s address
Dear friends,
You have chosen St.Petersburg State Transport University and you have done what is right.
Our University, founded in 1809, is the oldest engineering educational establishment in Russia. It is a “peculiar institute”, as Emperor Alexander I called it in his Manifesto. And we have tried to preserve this peculiarity for you!
Let us ponder over the word combination “transport connections” The most distant corner of the country becomes a short way of and accessible when roads have been laid there. Economic revitalization and industrial development are possible only if there are high-quality transportation links and that is why they are called arteries of life. But a powerful infrastructure is needed to ensure the transportation activity and in it are engaged mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, computer engineers, economists, builders, and ecologists. And all these and many other areas of the specialists’ training and instruction we have them available at St. Petersburg State Transport University. You have chosen this University, and this means you have chosen a profession that will be in demand. Graduated from PSTU are needed in the railway industry and metro systems; they are needed to the builders of bridges, tunnels, civilian facilities and dwelling houses; they are needed at firms producing various means of transportation or running power and water supply lines, distribution substations and computing systems.
Chief executives and specialists can upgrade their professional skills and do a refresher course. Students take an active part in their University’s life. The student self-rule is being restored to life at our University.
Welcome to St. Petersburg Transport University!
Respectfully yours,
Prof. Valery Kovalyov, Rector of the University
