Student Life
The student life is a kaleidoscope of vivid and unforgettable moments, a time passed with use and pleasure.
Foreign students studying at the Department of the Russian Language enjoy full rights in the University life. They attend lectures, take part in seminars, carry out laboratory works and write term papers, pass credits and exams just as the Russian students do. In their spare time, our students take part in all cultural events organized by the University. The Department works hard to adapt foreigners to the Russian way of life, culture, traditions, and history. Foreign students have opportunities to join the theater school, sing with the University choir, and attend sport clubs. At the Russian Language Centre, there take place meetings of students fraternities; consuls, representatives of Embassies and university executives are not rare visitors here.
The University staff tries to do so that a foreign student at PGUPS not only mastered his or her Russian but also knew well Russia of nowadays, its history and policy, culture and way of life. For this reason, familiarizing with historical sights of St. Petersburg, Pavlovsk, Tsarskoye Selo, Vyborg and other towns is an integral part of training at the Russian Language Centre.
Participation of foreign students in University and city events – conferences, creative contests (for example, Oriental poetry contest) became a good tradition.
The Days of Slavonic Script at PGUPS became traditional and in different years they are carried out in different ways: as a linguistic KVN or Russian Language Olympics; poster papers or student conferences. The Days of Slavonic Scipt (Cyril and Methodius Readings) is one of the exiting initiatives put forward by the PGUPS Department of the Russian Language. This event gives an opportunity to come back to our sources, to talk about our culture and national awareness, and to comprehend the place of the Russian culture in the general culture time and civilization context.
