On July 3, 2016, a delegation of the Chinese Ministry of Education headed by Vice Premier Liu Yandong visited the PGUPS. Liu Yandong is a member of the Chinese Government in charge of science, technology and education.

The delegation consisting of more than 50 people included: PRC Ambassador to the Russian Federation Li Hui, Deputy Ministers of foreign affairs, education and finance of the PRC, Consul General of the PRC in St. Petersburg, heads of various ministerial departments, etc. The delegation was accompanied by a group of professors from Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) headed by Rector Ning Bin.

Strengthening and development of political, economic and cultural collaboration of the two countries leads to implementation of more and more joint projects, the transport area being the most dynamically developing. Realization of these projects would be impossible without staff training and engineering research performed by the transport universities.

The Chinese delegation headed by Vice Premier Liu Yandong opened the Russian-Chinese Research Center for High-Speed Railway Traffic in PGUPS and got acquainted with a complex of laboratories serving as a basis for the Center. Guests also viewed an exhibition dedicated to the history of cooperation between Russian and Chinese transport universities. The exhibition included unique books, documents, and photos dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries reposited in the PGUPS Library.

After excursion Vice Premier Liu Yandong held a meeting with professors and students of the PGUPS and presented a speech supporting the development of fruitful scientific and academic relations between transport universities of the two countries. «The opening of the Research Center for High-Speed Railway Traffic is a serious achievement of the Russian-Chinese humanitarian exchange» said Vice Premier.

The participants of the meeting were then greeted by Deputy Head of Federal Agency of Railway Transport Igor Mitsuk, PGUPS Rector Alexander Panychev and BJTU Rector Ning Bin.
