International Scientific and Practical Conference «Agustin Betancourt: from Traditions to Future of Engineering Education»: Sectional Meetings

On February 2nd, 2018 International Scientific and Practical Conference «Agustin Betancourt: from Traditions to Future of Engineering Education» continued its work in sections.

The conference comprised four sections.

The Section 1 «A. Betancourt: Architecture, Urban Engineering, Arts, Transport, and Linguistics» was directly devoted to Betancourt’s personality and his diverse work. The moderator of the section was Professor of the Department of History, Philosophy, Politics and Sociology Dr. Igor Kiselev. The reports of the participants gave insights into poorly known facts of the great scientist and engineer and showed his role in development of engineering and technical ideas.

The Section 2 «A. Betancourt’s Scientific Heritage» encompassed reports which dwelt upon various aspects of development of bridge and road engineering, and other branches of transport sphere, began by A. Betancourt. The moderators of the section were Vice-Rector for Research Dr. Tamila Titova and the Head of the Department of Tunnels and Metros Dr. Alexander Lediaiev.

The Section 3 «Today’s Educational Concepts and Technologies of Training Engineers», moderated by Vice-Rector for Pedagogical Work and Industry Relations Petr Rybin, dwelt upon reports on topical issues and future of development of modern engineering education. Training engineer personnel for transport sphere was another A. Betancourt’s work, which was further developed in the years that followed.

The Section 4 «Young Scientists’ Section «Betancourt’s Heirs» united reports by students and postgraduates involved in experimental and theoretical researches in transport infrastructure branches. The moderator of the section was the Head of the Department of History, Philosophy, Politics and Sociology Dr. Vladimir Fortunatov.

The sectional meetings of the conference devoted to 260th anniversary of Agustin Betancourt were interesting and profound in terms of the contents of the reports presented.
