XV International Scientific and Technical Conference «XXI century rolling stock (ideas, requirements, projects)»

XV International Scientific and Technical Conference «XXI century rolling stock (ideas, requirements, projects)» was held from 13 to 15 July 2021 at the Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University. The conference has been held since 1999 by PGUPS and R&D center «Vagony». This year it was attended by representatives of higher educational institutions, research institutes, industry enterprises.

The conference was held meeting all epidemiological safety requirements.

At the plenary session, Acting Rector of PGUPS, First Vice-Rector — Vice-Rector for Research Tamila Titova made a welcoming speech, thanking those present for their participation, spoke about the rich history of the university and the conference and expressed her hopes that such events would take place for many years to come.

Other welcoming speeches were made by the CEO of R&D center «Vagony», Head of the Department «Railway Car Facilities» Yuriy Boronenko, representative of Association of railcar users and manufacturers, PGUPS graduate A.V. Vasiliev.

A memorandum of cooperation was signed between PGUPS, R&D center «Vagony» and RM Rail. The main purpose of the memorandum is to organize cooperation in the field of education and scientific research.

The conference consisted of two sections: «Rolling stock» and «Dynamics, strength, safety and testing of rolling stock».

Summing up the results of the conference, Tamila Titova noted the participants’ active work and productive discussions and invited them to take part in the conference next year.

Head of the Department «Railway Car Facilities» Yuriy Boronenko defined the following topics as the most widely discussed during the conference: development of rolling stock for heavy traffic, development of rolling stock for the transportation of high paying freight, passenger rolling stock improvement, smart cars and digitalization.

As a result of the conference, the main directions of rolling stock improvement were identified in the best interests of rolling stock owners and operators and railway transport in general.
