Department based research areas include development of non-destructive testing (NDT) systems for technical objects of railway transport and construction; acoustic and electromagnetic control methods; automation of NDT processes; rationing of control procedures and indicators; development of the theory and construction methods of ultrasonic testing (UT) devices; personnel certification and accreditation procedure for laboratories for non-destructive testing of railway technical objects; NDT metrology and standardization.

Here students study for a Bachelor’s degree in 12.03.01 Instrumentation, specialization Devices and Methods of Quality Control and Diagnostics; and for a Master’s degree in 12.04.01 Instrumentation, specialization Devices and Methods of Quality Control and Diagnostics or specialization Acoustic methods of solid state research.
