Saint-Petersburg’s High School Delegation Lay Wreaths at Soviet Volunteers’ Monument

On March 24th, 2017 during the visit to Spain, the delegation of Saint-Petersburg’s High School representatives attended Fuencarral Cemetery to lay wreaths at the Soviet Volunteers’ Monument, who fought in Spain during Spanish Civil War. The monument by Russian sculptor Alexander Rukasvishnikov and architect Igor Voskresensky was opened on May 9th, 1989. The Monument is a stone and metal triumph arch through which a formation of volunteers marches into immortality.

Saint-Petersburg’s Governor Mr. Georgy Poltavchenko together with the Russian Federation’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Spain Yuri Korchagin, accompanied by other members of the delegation, laid wreaths and flowers at the Monument.

Not far from the Monument, there is a black granite Stella, erected in memory of the Spanish who had given their lives during the Civil War, at which the delegation also paid tributes and laid flowers.
