Rector Alexander Panychev Visits Riga Technical University’s New Campus

On Ķīpsala Island there is being built a new campus of Riga Technical University (RTU). Several academic buildings and laboratories, halls of residence, a sports building and other facilities have already been erected. Riga Technical University (from 1958 till 1990 — Riga Polytechnical Institute) was established in 1862, which makes it the oldest university in Latvia. The university consists of 8 faculties with more than 15 thousand students studying in them.

PGUPS and RTU’ Faculty of Transport have had long-standing relationships. In 1990, LIIZT affiliate in Riga became a part of this faculty where by now railway specialists are trained. In 2012-2016, PGUPS and RTU along with a range of TEMPUS Project universities were implementing a system of training high-speed railway staff. The project was successfully finished.

On invitation of RTU, Rector Alexander Panychev and Vice-Rector for International and Public Relations Dr. Igor Kiselev visited the new campus on February 24th, 2017.

The guests were met by Rector of RTU, Academician of Latvian Academy of Sciences, Dr. Leonids Ribickis, Deputy Rector for International Academic Cooperation and Studies, Dr. Igors Tipāns, and Director of the Faculty of Transport, Professor Marek Mezitis. During the meeting, the parties signed the Agreement on Cooperation which outlines the main vectors of academic and scientific contacts development. Finally, the guests were taken on an excursion around the new campus and to several laboratories.
