Velikie Luki branch of Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University was established in 1964 as a structural unit to train railway specialists. From the very beginning, the branch was planned to function as a faculty, where students study during their first and second years, later continuing their education in St. Petersburg.

The University Branch Council is an elected representative body, which includes the branch director and his deputies, professors, student representatives. The decisions made by the Council are aimed at improving the educational process, equipment, laboratories and solving other issues.

The branch’s teaching staff is highly experienced. A considerable part of the teachers has PhDs and academic titles of associate professors and professors. The branch has modern laboratories to study chemistry, physics, engineering geodesy, theoretical foundations of electrical engineering; IT classrooms; language laboratory; modern library. There is also a training ground with samples of railway equipment.
