On May 27, 2016, on the birthday of our city, the ceremony of awarding laureates of the Award of the Government of St. Petersburg in the field of higher education and secondary vocational education took place at Smolny.

Among the winners, who were awarded by St. Petersburg Governor Georgy S. Poltavchenko and Vice-President of Russian Academy of Sciences, Nobel Prize winner Zhores I. Alferov, were:

• in the nomination «In the Field of Integration of Education, Science and Industry»: Liudmila S. Blazhko, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Head of Department «Track»; Igor P. Kiselev, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Public Relations, Professor of Department «Construction of Roads of the Transport Complex»; Pavel A. Plekhanov, Associate Professor of Department «Electric Connection» — for their work «The System of Advanced Training of Specialists in the Field of High-Speed Railway Transport»;
• in the nomination «Scientific Achievements that Improve the Quality of Training of Specialists and Personnel of Higher Qualification»: Konstantin K. Kim, Head of the PGUPS Department «Theoretical Foundations of Electrical Engineering» — for his work «Applied Electrodynamics of Continuous Medium».

The solemn ceremony was attended by members of the City Government, honorary citizens of St. Petersburg, heads of institutions of higher education, Rector of the PGUPS Alexander Y. Panychev.
