PGUPS Staff and Students Lay Wreaths in Memorial Garden Square

04.05.2017
Timeline

On May 4th, 2017 in the eve of celebration of 72nd anniversary of the Great Victory, the university staff and students traditionally laid wreaths at the Monument to LIIZT students and staff who died during the war.

During the Second World War, just like the entire country our university lived according to the motto «Everything for the front! Everything for victory!». 1423 students and staff members remained forever on the battlefields, perished during the hard days of the siege. Every year we gather to bow our heads to greatness of their deeds and pay tributes to those who did not return from that war.

The voice of Soviet Information Bureau announced the beginning of the ceremony and reminded the present of the events of those days. Accompanied by the song «The Sacred War», the bannermen brought the National Flag of Russia and the Banner of Victory and stood still. Only the metronome dared to break the moment of silence.

The ceremony was attended by the President of the university Prof. Viktor Lobko, as well as by vice-rectors, professors, guests, students and graduates of the university. Accompanied by sorrowful music, they walked down the Memorial garden square and laid wreaths at the monument.

Today’s students are the third generation living under a peaceful sky unaware of the atrocities of war. Yet they remember the heroic deeds of their forefathers and honour them.
