Interfax Group has implemented the National Ranking of Universities (NRU) project since 2010. Its main goal is to develop mechanisms and procedures for an independent evaluation system for Russian universities and their educational programs, to improve the competitiveness of the Russian education system, scientific research and technological entrepreneurship, the development of federal and regional universities.

337 leading Russian universities and institutes were assessed as part of the NRU project for 2020. The ranking includes all universities of the country: 29 national research universities, 10 federal, 33 support universities, as well as 21 universities participating in Project 5 — 100.

University is assessed on six parameters: educational activities; social environment; internationalization (international cooperation); brand; innovation and technological entrepreneurship.

Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University (PGUPS) confirmed its rating and entered the leading group A.

Position of PGUPS in NRU for 2020 is the result of effective educational, research and international activities of the university as an element of social responsibility of the first higher technical school of Russia for the development of education and science.
