Knowledge Day 2021

On September 1, 2021, a ceremony to celebrate the Knowledge Day and the beginning of the new academic year was held at the Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University.

By tradition, the holiday was held in the park of the Yusupov Palace. It was here that the first classes at the Institute began more than two hundred years ago.

Opening the ceremony, Rector Alexander Panychev welcomed the first-year students, saying that today marks a new beginning in their lives and also their professional development:

«In the near future, you will, relying on the experience of our great predecessors, solve the key challenges of global transformations, perform a scientific breakthrough».

The ceremony was attended by First Deputy CEO of Russian Railways S.А. Pavlov, Head of the North-West Territorial Administration of the Federal Rail Transport Agency N.V. Kamenir, Head of the Oktyabrskaya Railway V.G. Golomolzin, Chairman of the Transport Committee of the St. Petersburg Government K.V. Polyakov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Science and Higher Education of the St. Petersburg Government I.Yu. Ganus, CEO of Petersburg Metro E.G. Kozin, Chairman of the Road Territorial Organization Rosprofzhel on the Oktyabrskaya Railway A.V. Golubev, Head of the Municipal Formation Sennoy Okrug N.V. Astakhova, Parson of the Temple-Chapel in the name of the Holy Blessed Grand Prince Alexander Nevsky Protoiereus Father Nikolai.

First Deputy CEO of Russian Railways, graduate of PGUPS Sergey Pavlov said that today freshmen have the opportunity to join a friendly family of railway workers and become part of a huge company that works for the benefit of our entire country and the development of the economy:

«The knowledge that you get here will always be in demand not only in our country, but also for the implementation of all our projects abroad».

Professor of the Department of Railway Power Supply, PhD Anatoly Burkov lit the Fire of Knowledge. The Rector of the University handed over a symbolic student card to the first-year students of 2021, who were admitted with the highest exam results, Pavel Dolgikh (Faculty of Transport Construction) and Maria Evtikhieva (Faculty of Railway Operation and Logistics).

At the end of the ceremony, representatives from the faculties laid flowers at the monument to Agustín de Betancourt, the organizer and first rector of the University.
