Meeting of participants of the project «Arctic Railway Infrastructure in Kolarctic»

The meeting of CBC KOLARCTIC project partners — Arctic Railway Infrastructure in Kolarctic (ARINKA II) took place on February 10-11 in Luleå, Sweden. Railways representatives from Russia, Sweden, Finland and Norway discussed the problems of railway operation in the northern regions.

The meeting was attended by specialists from the Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University, the Northern Research Institute Narwik (Norway), Lulea University of Technology (Sweden), Kola Science Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Lapland University of Applied Sciences (Finland), as well as representatives of railway organizations: Norwegian Railways (Norway), Trafikverket Transport Administration (Sweden), Finnish Transport Agency (Finland), Oktyabrskaya Railway — branch of JSC «Russian Railways». The PGUPS delegation included Professor Yu.P. Boronenko, PhD in Engineering sciences C.V. Shkurnikov, A.V. Romanov, PhD in Engineering sciences E.V. Gorodnova.

During the working meeting many issues were discussed, in particular the progress of the ARINKA project, similarities and differences in the railways operation in different countries.

E.V. Gorodnova was a moderator of the section dedicated to the mapping of the railway network in the Kolarctic region. Also during this section partners presented the reports describing the railway system in the KOLARCTIC region.

Specialists also visited the Swedish metallurgical company SSAB, where they got acquainted with the organization of industrial railway transport in the steel industry.

The next meeting is planned for July 2020 at the Northern Research Institute Narwik in Norway.
