On July 29, 2020, Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Evgeny Ditrich held a telephone conversation with Minister of Transport of the Republic of Cuba Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila.

The conversation’s main topic was cooperation in the field of aviation, rail and sea transport, as well as transport sector education. The ministers discussed the implementation of the Russian Railways project to develop the railway infrastructure of Cuba, as well as the prospects for training Cuban students at Russian transport universities.

For several decades, Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University has played an important role in the reconstruction and development of the railways of the Republic of Cuba. Many management representatives of the Union of Railways of Cuba are PGUPS graduates. PGUPS scientists were involved in the construction of Cuban railways in the XX century.

Today, cooperation continues: the University trains and retrains Cuban transport specialists, and scientific research conducted by PGUPS will be used in the reconstruction and development of the Cuban railways.
