Within the Cooperation Program between Russian Railways and railway universities, a joint student business incubator was created in 2021 by Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University and the Oktyabrskaya Railway. The opening ceremony was held on December 1, 2021 at the St. Petersburg-Sortirovochny-Moskovsky railway station.

In 2021, three student teams became joined the business incubator. Their projects received support from the Oktyabrskaya Railway, such as:

• Development of an economic model describing a digital platform of a passenger multimodal transportation integrator;
• Development of a low-maintenance grounding system for contact network supports in AC traction power supply;
• Automation of commercial inspection using a neural network.

In April 2022, within the Regional Innovation Platform, new projects were presented — the winners of the PGUPS student research grants competition, recommended for further development in the business incubator:

• Development of a locomotive transmission model based on permanent magnets;
• Algorithm for determining the size of the movement of commuter trains and its software implementation;
• Study of the possibility of using software-defined radio in networks of technological railway radio communications.

According to the work plan of the student business incubator, in September 2022, its residents are going to participate in team building events and meetings with leading experts and representatives of industrial companies
