PGUPS Holds History Olympiad for Pupils «Heritage of Betancourt»

On March 15th PGUPS saw the final stage of the History Olympiad for pupils «Heritage of Betancourt» which was jointly organised by Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University and The State Memorial Museum «Saint Isaac’s Cathedral».

The Olympiad is a part of the International scientific and educational project «Heritage of Betancourt» being realised on the threshold of 260th anniversary of an outstanding engineer and scientist.

In the competition pupils of three schools took part: № 359, № 553, and № 210.

The jury included the representatives of «Saint Isaac’s Cathedral» and PGUPS: Head of innovation and research projects Ms. I. Khitarova as the Chairperson, Deputy Head of the Excursion department Ms. O. Andreeva, Head of Pedagogy sector Ms. A. Korchagina, Head of Physically challenged people sector Mr. A. Shariy, and PGUPS Museum’s Director Mr. S. Kharchuk.

Vice-Rector for International and Public Relations Dr. Igor Kiselev delivered his welcome to the participants, telling about the past and the present of PGUPS and railway technologies being investigated and developed in the university.

The Olympiad consisted of five contests: team introduction, history, essay, home task and questions on site.

The winner of the Olympiad was school № 210 which got most of the points.

After the Olympiad the participants were taken on to the excursion in the university’s laboratories.
