On April 18-25, 2016 our University hosted the Festival «Week of Science — 2016». Its main event was the 76th All-Russia Scientific-Technical Conference of Students, Graduate Students and Young Scientists «Transport: Problems, Ideas and Perspectives». This year the conference included 9 sections, more than 2,500 people from the PGUPS and other Russian transport universities took part in it.

Within the framework of the Festival, the competition of mini-essays devoted to the 60th anniversary of St. Petersburg metro, the competition of video presentations of students’ scientific societies and the competition of scientific and innovative projects «INNOPRO» were held. The exhibition presenting results of the students’ research teams, who have won grants of the PGUPS in 2015, was opened in the Column Hall of our University.

On April 20, 2016 the International Creativity Forum «Heritage of Betancourt», dedicated to summing up the results of the competition of student creative works, took place. Honorary guests of the event were Director of the State Museum-Monument «St. Isaac’s Cathedral» Nikolay V. Burov and First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Youth Policy and Interaction with NGOs of St. Petersburg Administration Konstantin A. Zagorodnikov.

On April 22, 2016 students of the School № 210 of the Central district of St. Petersburg participated in the competition of scientific and innovative projects «INNOPRO». They demonstrated a mini-museum dedicated to Agustin de Betancourt. Students themselves designed the model of the Vitebsk Station, the mechanism by which the Alexander Column was lifted on the Palace Square in St. Petersburg, the model of fountain «Girl with a Jug», models of different mechanisms and buildings connected with the name of Betancourt.

Solemn closing of the Festival took place on April 25, 2016 in the Assembly Hall of the University. Guests of the University that day became the Head of HR Department of the October Railway Sergey I. Sereda and First Deputy Head of St. Petersburg metro Evgeny G. Kozin.

Participants were welcomed by the PGUPS Vice-Rector for Research Tamila S. Titova: «The Festival «Week of Science» is a real scientific gala day which helps everyone to develop their potential and contribute to the innovative development of the industry». Vice-Rector noted that the University is working on a number of major infrastructure projects with active participation of young scientists.

Tamila S. Titova and Evgeny G. Kozin presented diplomas and prizes to the winners of the competitions.
